Bike Stroller Trailers

Having children can sure complicate the goal of maintaining fitness as a part of every day life. Instead of just deciding to get out there and “do it” when the mood strikes, or if it doesn’t, suddenly there are other considerations.

How do you get out there on a regular basis when you have to find someone to stay with your child or children before you venture out the door? Of course, you could get a membership to a pricey health club and get your exercise on a fake bike under fake lights, but if that is not your thing then you need to come up with an option.

Fortunately there are options.

If your thing is riding a bicycle, or at least riding a bicycle until you get where you want to be to do Bike Trailerwhat you want to do, there are excellent choices available. Pack the kids and take them along. Share your love of exercise and the outdoors with them. Raise them up right.

There are many options when it comes to bicycle trailers (if you only bike) or of bike trailers that convert into strollers for a more complete all around exercise regimens. Just think,  instead of jumping through all of those hoops, you can just bundle the kids up, pack them into a trailer connected to your bike, and off you go down the road.

Then when you get to your destination, be it walking a bike path in the woods, running down an asphalt trail, or doing errands around town, simply convert the trailer into a stroller and proceed. No hassles.

There are different options of how the trailer works, how it converts, and whether it will hold one child or two. There are also different price points, so that there is a trailer stroller to suit anybody’s needs, depending on your requirements when it comes to safety, durability, and utility.

It seems that every day not only is there something new that comes along to aid you in your quest for good health, but it is more affordable and more viable than anything that came before.

Carrying Those Bikes

Step one – find an activity that you can enjoy, that starts slow, and if possible involves other people.

One solution is to get yourself a bike. Biking is something that almost anyone can enjoy. It can be pursued at any pace a person desires, and almost everyone has fond memories of riding a bike when they were young. Never underestimate the power of nostalgia when it comes to how you feel about things when you get older.

The thing about remembering with nostalgia things from our youth is that the reality often bike trip with moutainsdoes not match the memory. Of course that is true of bicycling as it is of anything. You will never capture the simple joy of learning new things, of running around without the cares of the world on your shoulders. But as much as is possible you can hang on to the feeling of just being out and enjoying a bit of physical exertion, even if it costs so much more than it did when you had young legs.

On top of all of this, biking is the type of exercise that easily lends itself to solitary jaunts through the countryside, or leisurely rides around town with friends. It can also turn into a competitive endeavor  if you should choose to go that far.

Another thing about a bicycle is that it is easy to transport if your chosen route for the day is one that starts a ways from home. This can be true if either you are looking for a bit of variety in your workouts, or if you have no real good opportunities for rides close to you.

It is so easy to throw your ride onto a hitch mount bike carrier, strap it in and be on your way. It takes little more time than just grabbing the bike and going.

If you have family or friends that you regularly like to ride with there are bike racks that carry up to 4 bikes with no trouble at all. That is especially nice if you have a family with young children who you don’t yet trust to be riding on the roads. It is such a simple matter to get the family together on a weekend morning and pack them all off to the nearest bike trail for a day of shared physical activity.

Actively sharing your hobbies with children when they are young is one of the best ways to ensure that they grow up with some shared interests, and if you can at the same time help them to learn to incorporate some exercise into their daily lives, that is a definite bonus.

So think about choosing to ride a bike as at least one of your physical activities. It ticks all the boxes. It is inexpensive to get started with since it requires no specialized equipment. It is the type of thing that can be easily incorporated into your life. It can be as relaxing or strenuous as you choose, and it is the type of activity that can be social – share it with friends and family to maximize your enjoyment.

And don’t forget how much fun it was when you were young.

And So

Start small. You really don’t have to master everything today. Likely if you try you will fail.

Side note: I looked over my last rant and realized that it sounded a bit libertarian. To clarify – everyone has a right to do what makes them happy so long as it doesn’t interfere with other’s rights. We are all part of a collective any way you look at it. The country is one big ecosystem and until we realize that our own happiness is impacted by the combined happiness of all three hundred odd million of us, things will never be the best that they can be.

So don’t decide today that you are going to run a marathon next month. Don’t decide today that you are going to lose 50 pounds by Christmas.

swim fitnessDecide today that you are going to walk around the block and maybe start looking in to getting something more conducive to your style of fitness preparedness, like a treadmill or a bike. And don’t put off the walking thing while you decide what you would really like to do. Walk again tomorrow, and again the next day. Walk until you can ride. When you get all that handled then you can start to think about the triathlon. Anything before that and you are either dreaming or deluded. Riding that delusion for very long runs the risk of crashing head long into failure.

Same thing with the diet. Do not set goals you can’t reach. Or at least that you don’t know that you can reach.  There are two problems with that approach. The first is that if you set goals and don’t manage to reach them you will be demotivated. The second is that having large weight loss goals that when you reach it signals that you are done is the surest way to have to do it all over again sooner rather than later. So just don’t.

Decide that today you are going to eat one less donut. Decide that your portions will be just a bit smaller. Decide to add a vegetable to your menu. And do it again tomorrow. And the next tomorrow. If you find that you are gaining some traction then set some easy goals that you should be able to continue with with only a little willpower. Done well that attitude will allow you to develop new habits that will last. No more yo-yo diets. No more three wardrobes. No more failure to sap your self esteem and leave you prone to the same confidence destroying behavior the next time.

That is how real change is made, one small step, one small idea, one small action at a time.

I Think…

That no matter what, everybody deserves a right to a happy, healthy, fulfilled life. (Well, not murderers so much), and that anything and anybody who tries to get int he way of that in these the United States, should be reprimanded. By somebody.

That said, we each as individuals can mostly only do so much. We can try to improve the world right around us as best we can and if we are particularly energetic or motivated we can join with others to try to do more. But, really, even that can only do so much so fast.

As with everything in life when it comes down to it, you can only control you. So speak out when you can, live honestly and joyfully and spread that honesty and joy. And take care of yourself.

Watch what you eat, get some exercise, and get out with other people, because living a life alone is no way to live. I am sure, though I’m not going to look it up right now. that people who spend time with other people are happier people who live longer lives.

So those are the things you need to do to live a life that is long and fulfilling and joyful. Because it’s hard to be joyful when you are bitter and don’t feel well. And as you age it seems like those things can go hand in hand.
